CARPORT, LANDSCAPING ELEMENTS
In spring 2008, central Austin residents experienced an overnight storm that devastated homes and cars with severe hail damage. After receiving significant damage to both vehicles, the client needed a carport to meet compact conditions and compliment a traditional 1930’s home.
The carport rests between the main residence and property line. This produces a set of guidelines to enforce the height and length of the carport design. Solutions and materials for the carport had to be adaptable and allow for structural modifications [a 20ft cantilever] to meet the requirements of the city and neighborhood association.
The final design is composed of exposed materials that are allowed to rust and remain natural. A steel screen is attached to the underside of the carport and will allow for vegetation to help blend the carport with its surroundings.
Our client needed various landscaping elements to be integrated and share a similar spirit with the new carport. These elements include a new property fence, replacing an old porch stair, steel planter boxes, and several steel edged pathways.
The client brought a green thumb with an amazing knowledge of plants to the project and reinVNT helped conceive the long awaited vision for her backyard. Material selection is based on durability and natural beauty after time. Cedar will fade, steel will rust, and ipe will harden to create a timeless backdrop for her artist studio.
